Invasion of Southern France Impression
A dogface at during the Invasion of Southern France would have been dressed in 1937 Wool Shirt and Mustard color pants. His foot wear would be either Type II Service shoes and leggings or 1943 Combat Boots. He would wear a 1943 E-tool and OD/Khaki cover attached to his belt. He would carry over his shoulder a bed roll. Which consists of a mustard wool blanket and a Half tent. He would also carry an OD M7 Gasmask bag. He would wear a Front Seam Swivel bail/fixed bail helmet with 3rd ID markings and a(optional) helmet net.

A soldier in the 3rd Division durring the fall of 44 would wear Wool Shirt and Mustard pants, and a 1944/1941 Field Jacket. His web gear would be a mix of Khaki and Olive Drab. His foot wear would be the 1943 Combat Boot or the built up type II service shoes. He would wear a Front Seam Swivel bail/fixed bail helmet with 3rd ID markings and a(optional) helmet net.

An average soldier fighting in the Colmar pocket would wear: 1937 wool shirt and mustard wool pants, M43 Jacket/M41 Jacket with optional White snow cover. An M43 Jacket is suggested as they were very wide spread at that time. He would carry all Olive Drab gear or at least a mix of Olive Drab and Khaki. His foot wear would be 1943 Combat Boots, Built up service shoes, or Shoepacs. He would wear a white camo snow cover or net on his helmet.

Rifleman Impression

A rifleman in the 3rd Infantry Division would be equiped with either a M1 Garand Rifle or a 1903 Springfield. The M1 Garand rifle officially replaced the 1903 Springfield in 1936. However Springfield rifles were seen till the end of WWII. For Anzio onward a rifleman would carry a 1923 Cartridge Belt, a M1910, M1924, or M1942 First Aid Pouch, A 1943 Shovel or 1910 T-Handle Shovel and carrier, and a 1943 Bayonet and Bakelite OD scabard. From 1940 1943 a Rifleman would wear a 1910 or 1923 Cartridge Belt, 1910 First Aid Pouch, 1910 T-handle Shovel and carrier, Metal capped Canteen and cover.

B.A.R Man Impression
One B.A.R Rifle was issued to every sqaud in the 3rd ID. A B.A.R man would carry a B.A.R Belt, 1936 suspenders, a Canteen, Cup and cover, an M3 Knife and Leather/plastic knife Scabbard. | ![]() |
Field Medic Impression

A field medic in the 3rd Infantry Division would wear a pistol belt with two canteens, two cups, and two covers, a carisle bandage pouch, A medic bag with an attached strap carried over the shoulder. A medic would wear an armband, with a red cross on it, worn on the sleeve. He would wear an front seam helmet with 3rd ID insignia painted on the side. He would not have medic crosses. Medics did not carry weapons. They were put there to save lives not take them.
For a Seargant an M1A1 Thompson or a M3 Grease Gun(Sept 44 onward) is prefered. If equiped with a Thompson or an M3 Grease Gun he would wear a 1937 pistol belt, 5 cel Thompson ammo pouch or a khaki GP Ammo bag, a M3 Knife and Leather/plastic knife Scabbard a Canteen, Cup and cover. NCO's would carry a Colt 45 pistol with a brown leather holster and khaki 45 pouch(WWI Version, WWII Model, or British made).

For an officer Impression a tanker jacket is preferred over an M41. For Late war an M43 is appropriate. For an officer an M1 Carbine is preferred. When carrying an M1 carbine a soldier would wear a 1937 pistol belt, and 1-2 M1 Carbine pouches mounted at the front of his belt, an M3 Knife and Leather/plastic knife Scabbard, a Canteen, Cup and Khaki cover. Officers would also carry a Colt 45 pistol, a brown leather holster, and a khaki 45 pouch(WWI Version, WWII Model, or British made).
Additional Information
Transitional gear is accepted. 3rd ID Helmet marking Measurments are 2" In. x 2" for Anzio till the end of the war. Helmets can be rear seam but khaki chin straps and WWII paint need to be applied. For a Private and Corporal Impressions an M1 Garand is the prefered weapon. A 1928 Haversack has to be purchased but doesn't have to be worn with all Impressions.
